Cheers to the New Year!!!
2013 has come and gone, and 2014 is officially here. Lucky me, I am sick on the couch. Despite that, I felt the need to be productive and try and get some new material up. So here is today’s musings…
In the Fitness industry, we are all well aware of the commonality of resolutions formed and forgotten in the first few weeks of the year. It seems every gym, no matter the type, has a spike in membership, and a slow but consistent drop no more than two weeks after.
I chose not to set a resolution this year, but to promise myself to put it all out there. Not be intimidated by judgment, and really commit myself… (After all I am getting married in just over 8 months!wooo!)
Anyway, this post is in regards to a question I get asked quite frequently, and I believe is somewhat of a hot topic in the Fitness world.
“Do you wear makeup at the gym?”
In Short. Yes.
When I get ready in the morning, regardless of whether I am going to the gym, working at the gym, or on a rest or off day – more days then not, I will wear some type of makeup.
The tom boy side of me screams at this, and says why are you putting on makeup when you are just going to workout? But typically I am teaching a class either before or after I workout which means it is just part of getting ready for work.
I don’t typically wear a lot of products, because honestly I really don’t want to end up look like the Joker after a workout, and I’m not putting it on specifically to go workout… In fact there are plenty days that I do wear nothing at all… Maybe it’s because I am lucky enough to go to work in my beloved Lululemon Dance Studio pants, that I feel the need to “pull myself together,” somehow and putting on a few face products helps me feel that way? Maybe I just like having a routine when I wake up in the morning? Either way its all about confidence.
I don’t hate on girls wearing makeup at the gym. Maybe you just came from work, maybe it just makes you feel better about yourself. Just know – I’m not judging you, as long as you are there to sweat…
…It’s when you are scared to ruin your makeup that I will judge you… it’s not a beauty pageant- and if you are trying to “get fit,” in any way shape or form, that requires sweat. Lots of it.
Do what’s best for you ladies.
Anyway, I wanted to also recommend some of my favorite products, that I have tested rigorously at the gym and are essentially “sweat proof.”
Clinique- CC Cream in Medium – Very Breathable and lightweight moisturizing foundation with light to medium coverage. I have sensitive skin, so this seems to let my skin breath enough to get through any workout, and last all day.
Maybelline – The “Rocket” Mascara in Blackest Black. Waterproof. No flaking, no Raccoon eyes – even if you rub them like crazy and if you have straight eyelashes, this will hold a curl.
Styli-Style Precision Eyeliner in Black Brown – I have had this gosh-darn thing forever. Probably should throw it away, but it works great, and doesn’t move – yet comes off surprisingly easy.
Korres Lip Butter in Guava – Tons of chalk in the air at the gym = chapped lips like crazy. This stuff is so moisturizing, and smells heavenly. Love.
That’s pretty much it, I don’t do any sort of full face, crazy smokey eye or anything dramatic- because I’m going to work or workout, and that ladies- is my priority.
What are some of your gym-proof products? Are you quick to judge girls at the gym? Stop it! Judging a person does NOT define who they are, it defines who YOU are.
