I’m a big fan of youtube, and on any given day I would much rather watch youtube videos instead of television. My husband and I don’t even have cable, so that might be part of the reason why, but one of my favorite videos to watch are “what’s in my bag videos.” These videos are usually created by the Youtube Beauty Community Guru’s and are a delightfully nosey way of seeing what other people keep stashed away in an otherwise very private space.
I decided to make my own take on this video, and create a blog post showing what I keep in my gym bag. This may be helpful to someone wondering what to bring to their fist CrossFit class, or see what type of equipment/goodies I keep with me on a daily basis. Anyway I will post some pictures of the more interesting items, and list some of the less exciting stuff.
The Bag Itself- I carry right now an Under Armor Two Compartment Gym Bag. I got it a few years back when I was personal training. It has some great organizational compartments, and enough room for two pairs of shoes!
Water-Yep just the good old fashioned stuff. I like my nalgene bottle because it holds the most (32 oz) versus my glass bottle which I keep with me while I coach, because I typically SLAM tons of water as I am working out. I have been known to finnish an entire nalgene in just a 20 minute WOD.
Deodorant- I like to use more natural products when possible, so my favorite has been the Lavanilla Healthy Naturals Vanilla Grapefruit. It works pretty well for me, and I feel better about not loading on tons of chemicals.
Wrist Wraps- I use the Rogue 18″ velcro wrist wraps. I have had a few others in the past that have simply not had enough support for me. I have struggled with cysts before in my wrists so I need the longer wraps to provide extra support. Big fan of these! www.roguefitness.com
OLY Shoes- I bought the Reebok CrossFit OLY Lifters on-sale about a year and a half ago. They get the job done, but I think I will probably look into something different in the future. They have the flexible toe, so it’s great for box jumps/double unders and some other movements, plus they are pretty comfy, but I think a fully solid platform would definitely benefit my lifts! www.reebok.com/crossfit
Running Shoes &/or CF Shoes- I will either have my Brooks Trail Runners or my CrossFit Nano 3’s with me, depending on how much running I plan on for the day.
SFH Protein – I hate to carry around the whole bag because the closure’s on this protein does not work very well. So I typically put a scoop or two in a ziplock baggy and keep it in my gym bag for post-wod fuel. You can find this protein at www.sfh.com
FUEL- Right now I have the Fuel For Fire Berry Fuel in my bag. I got this as a trial from the company… Look for a review coming soon 🙂 www.fuelforfire.com
Makeup Cleansing Wipes- Beyond Basics are my favorites, but right now I have the Cetaphil ones.. Just something to keep my skin clear after a sweaty workout!
Headphones/iPod- On the off chance that no one shows up for a WOD, sometimes I will take off on a run by myself, or even *shocker* do the WOD by myself. If that is the case, I take the opportunity to listen to some profanity filled jams.
Feminine Items- Just for emergencies.
*Electrolytes- If I am going to be working out or running for longer than about 45 minutes, or if the weather is just insanely hot and humid, I like to make up for what I sweat out by replacing those lost salts with some electrolytes. I’m a big fan of VitaCoCo’s Lemonade, but I am fully open to checking out some newer less sugar-y options! Find Coco Hydro on Amazon, or with their producers at www.bigtreefarms.com
Hair Ties- I always have a few on my wrists, but I have a back up or two in my gym bag.
My Agenda- I never leave the house without this thing. Since college I have kept an agenda, I just need it for my sanity and keeping my home, personal and work life in balance.
Well that’s it! Let me know what you think about this, and I would love to hear in a response what you keep in your gym bag!
