Well it’s finally here… My CrossFit Subscription Box Roundup and Review. I wouldn’t call this one a comparison, it’s more of a best of the best. I was lucky enough to work with a few of these companies, and while some of the boxes were offered as promotions, all opinions are my own, and I will always provide my honest opinion on all products and or services I review here on NSAF.
The first box I want to mention is the Gainz Box. Gainz is a very cool monthly subscription box which offers CrossFit specific products at X price point. The Gainz Box I reviewed was the January Box, which was chock full of merchandise. You can get 10% off your first box simply by signing up for their newsletter… here!
The Gain[z] Box is also curated by top level athletes this year, and specifically the January Box was curated by Charis Chan, which is also cool – simply knowing she picked out these exact products….
- Devoted Apparel Tee Shirt
- WODBook specifically made for Gain[z]
- SanFranola Granola
- Nordic Naturals Supplements
- Doc Spartan Balm
- Raw Revolution Bars (2 different flavors)
When I first opened the box, I could not believe the amount of Nordic Naturals Supplements they had included, it was incredible. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the SanFranola Granola, as well as I have been dying to try this, and have heard very good things. I was a little less excited about the Devoted Apparel Tee Shirt, only because it seems to be a pretty simple unisex white tee, which I find to be universally unflattering. Oh well, maybe I will save for a giveaway (*hint*hint* coming soon!). The WODbook is actually super cool as well – I personally prefer to log my workouts in a Composition notebook, as I like to make notes about how I felt during a workout, but I really enjoyed that it has so many workouts LISTED in here. It felt more like a WOD Dictionary, which is super helpful when you are doing your own programming, and stumped for ideas :). (The hubby has since stolen said WODBook, for his own programming as well!). I am not sure how much use I will get out of the Doc Spartan Balm, but I will be sure to try it out, and update you in the future with my thoughts….
To purchase the Gain[z] Box you have several options… Monthly, 3 month, 6 month or yearly. Month to month the box is $32 (+$6 s/h), and then it drops a dollar with each upgrade incrementally. They have a great social media presence, and often offer discounts and giveaways on Instagram, and their various social media… I highly recommend checking them out!
Overall I was mighty impressed with the Gain[z} box. It was jam packed with great stuff! I would say this is really great, well rounded subscription box, and would make a great gift for a CrossFitter, or anyone interested in trying out new brands. Solid 8/10.
The Second Box I want to mention is the Strength Crate. Now this is a unique concept, as not only does it include some fun supplements, apparel and products, but each subscription includes a piece of training equipment! There are different tiers of the boxes, so you can chose how much you would like to spend – which will determine what type of equipment shows up in your box. They have included everything from Pull up bands, to Sandbags in the past, so I was eager to see what was included in the January Box.
The Strength Crate arrived on a particularly snowy day, and the first thing I noticed was the box was completely STUFFED to the brim, and Heavy! I immediately had to open this bad boy, and man was I right… This box was loaded with goodies. The Strength Crate included:
- A Pink Devoted Tank Top
- A Red Driven Tee Shirt
- 8 Protein Samples – Banana Cream Pie Flavor (I will have to pass on these as I am not a fan of Bananas…But hubby loves them)
- 8 Pre-Workout Samples – I will save one of these to try, but I will be relying on the Hubs to test these out as I am avoiding caffeine while preggo (If you didn’t know, now you know!)
- 2 Protein Bar Samples
- An Easy-to-build Pair of Paralette Bars
- A Topical Rock Solid Roll On Muscle Gel
I have to say, one of the best parts about this Box, is that you can build it to order… They have 3 different types of Crates you can order.. The Warm-Up ($35), The Game Day ($55), or the G.O.A.T. ($75) each containing different types of merchandise and also available for a 3 month subscription discount. I love how there are different tiers available, it really makes it easy for people to try it out depending on their budget and desires.
I also really like the fact you can customize a box.. meaning you can go to their site, and customize and completely curate the type of Box you want to receive.. Depending on how many items you add, and what type – you are able to also receive up to 10% off those items – or if there is simply an item you need monthly – you can subscribe to that item for a discount as well… (For example – if you know there is a specific supplement they carry you typically use on a monthly basis, you can earn a discount for subscribing to that item!)
The Strength Crate has great customer service, and was super fast regarding shipping. I think I received the box in the mail only a few short days after talking with them. If you are building a home gym, or looking to try out some really cool new swag… and customize what you are receiving – the Strength Crate is the way to go. Awesome Box 8.5/10.
The Barbella Box – I don’t know if I have ever been quite so excited to try a product or service out. This subscription box seemed to have it all for a girl who admittedly loves to lift heavy sh*t, and find the perfect mascara. It is the first, true, women-specific subscription service box.
Barbella Box is a monthly package filled with premium Functional Fitness apparel, gear, accessories, snacks, supplements, workout tips, and more exclusively for women.
Yup. Sounds right up my alley. So it works by signing up, sending your preferred sizes, and then they curate your monthly box.
The Andrea Ager Box included:
- A Good Sized Roll of GOAT Tape (Similar to KT Tape)
- A Nutriforce Sports Supplement Pack
- An Autographed Andrea Ager Card 😉
- A Sports Bra by Born Primitive – An a discount card for your next bra!
- And a mint-chocolate RX Bar – Super Yummy
While the box wasn’t “loaded” the quality of the products, was amazing. The sports bra alone justified the price. It’s a seriously great sports bra, I would compare it to the quality of Lululemon or Athleta without a doubt, which retail for typically over $50! I will certainly be taking advantage of the discount card for another. My only wish is that I had gotten the beautiful turquoise bra I saw a few members with… I received black- which is always great but I was mesmerized by the other color!
I was lucky enough to receive one of the Sold Out Andrea Ager (LOVE HER!) January Barbella Boxes at a discount . The boxes contain “4-6 well-known and new-to-the-market brands products including CrossFit-style apparel, gear, accessories, supplement samples, snacks, workout tips, recipes, and more.” It costs $49.99, and includes free shipping. (You can also receive a quarterly box for $141, or a yearly subscription for $540.)It is on an auto-renewal, to make note of if you are only trying it out. I did receive this box at a discount, and am very thankful for the opportunity to share the service. You can also receive a 5% discount on the Barbella box by typing BARBELLA5 – Marette Boyle, in at check out :). Ella, the founder- was amazing and was awesome to work with. Definitely an up & coming box – and totally unique in it’s specificity to women. Another Solid 8/10.
The point of this “round-up” is to really show the best of the best. If you are looking to try some new products, or maybe find a unique gift for a CrossFitter – these are by far the way to go!
For the gear junkie – Go with the Strength Crate
For the Bad Ass CrossFit Chick or Fitness Loving Lady – The Barbella Box
And for an Overall Fun & Diverse Sampling – Go for the Gain[z].
