They say it can take weeks or even months to form a habit or routine.
I believe this to be true of things that we often find difficult or uninteresting. If it were easy, we would all be in spectacular forms of health and wellness.
I don’t know about you, but if someone told me I could eat ice cream every night and lose weight, I would form that habit instantly :). Hellooooo Down River!
.I have also learned, it is 100% easier to add to your routines/habits than it is to take things away. I don’t have many habits. I enjoy variety too much, to get stuck in the same routines. However – I do occasionally like to test out routines, to see how I benefit from them over a period of time.
Case in point. I have formed a *NEW* yoga routine. I call this a new routine, because I suppose I have been doing it for a while, but I don’t think I had realized how frequently I had been doing it.
I am now at 38 weeks pregnant. My workouts are modified and limited, but I am still getting them in. While I can’t say they are always the best, I have noticed some consistency in all of them. I end all of them with these 5 yoga poses.
- Downward facing Dog
- Half Pigeon Left/Right
- Malasana Yogi/Squat
- Wide Legged Forward Fold
- Upward facing Dog
I think having a routine or habit can be a very valuable tool. I also think it is most important to enjoy what you are doing – therefore you will never get sick of it. I take about 30-90 seconds in each of these poses, and enjoy the benefits of mobility, flexibility and deep relaxation. 🙂
